Canadians in Denmark - canadian tax?

Hi there,

just looking for some info - I will be moving to Copenhagen this summer sometime, and trying to get more info on how taxes will work. Is anyone maintaining CDN residency for the sake of paying CDN taxes on their international income, and how does that work if you are living and working in Denmark? There are two things here: 1) it might actually be advantageous to try to be tax liable to canada and not DK, and pay a lower overall tax. and 2) if you still have a home, bank account, rrsps, etc. in Canada, you technically cannot really declare non-residency, and thus are tax-liable to Canada. There is a tax agreement between the two countries, so you don't end up paying double tax, but do you end up paying all your CDN tax, and then pay whatever the difference is to DK so that your total taxed amount is the same?

At some point I guess I will have to talk to (hire) accountants or lawyers who actually know more about this, but just looking for some preliminary info, and maybe some annecdotal info based on the experience of others there.

Also, if there is anyone who qualified for the 25% tax thing for the first 3 years, I'd be interested in hearing what the details of that are with regards to residency and your tax status in each country.

Thanks,
Steve
