Canadians in New Jersey

Post Tue Jul 10, 2007 12:17 pm

Hey guys. I just recently moved to New Jersey from Ontario and am looking to find other Canadians to hang out with at some point. So yeah, that's it. I guess I miss Canada so much I have to have people to talk to from home that are actually here! haha

I'm actually down in Princeton Junction (Exit 8 on NJTP as locals refer to it heh)

I'm actually going to be moving up to Staten Island in a week or so. Don't have a car though, yet. Try chilling with people from your workplace?

I would if I worked. haha. I can't work because I don't have my EAD/SSN yet. I will in the next couple months but since I have been here it's been hard to meet friends.

You could try Connect2Canada but there doesn't seem to be a group (yet) in New Jersey. There are a few groups in New York though.

I know its hard when you first get here, especially when you can't work yet.

You might also try to meet up with some locals who might have similar interests as you. Try Meetup.com or Yahoo Groups, search for something you like to do, like cooking clubs, or scrapbooking, other immigrants, or religious groups or whathaveyou.

Well I do have a few friends because of my husband that I do go out with. I guess I was just interested in finding some Canadians close to me if possible. I did see there were some canadian groups in NYC though.

I think I will be doing an MA eventually so I'm sure I will be able to meet more people through that, and also when I can work. It has been tough though! I miss my friends from home a bunch.

Nope, no visa. I came over as a visitor, got married to my husband, and now waiting for my GC. Where do you guys live?

Oh, he's a Permanent resident or Citizen?

I see! She's still actually at home, I'm going home(upcoming Wednesday to Toronto for two weeks and then coming back and will be staying a stone's throw away from you in Staten Island.
