Want to move to Dubai, visa options?

Hi there,

I spent a month in Dubai in early '08 and enjoyed myself quite a bit, made some great friends, etc. I saw some great (and not so great) aspects of Dubai.

At this point I am strongly considering moving to DXB and am wondering what my options are in my situation and how feasible they are. I am 21 years old, male, Canadian citizen. It would only be myself (no spouse/dependents.)

All I absolutely require is permission to reside in Dubai. Work Visa is not 100% necessary as I am self-employed (own my own online investment business) and my income is largely passive.

Unfortunately I have no secondary education diploma so I could not imagine a local firm wanting to employ me nor could I imagine the compensation to be anything worth my time.

Any ideas on the different ways to legally reside in DXB and the associated costs with each method? I've heard of starting a business, buying property, buying a visa (not sure if this is legitimate or not.) Any explanation or further thoughts are appreciated.

If anyone's gone through the process of starting a business in a FTZ and getting a visa that way I would love to ask a few questions such as how long/difficult it was and how much it ended up costing you.

Thank you very much.

planning to Retire in Canada after working in ME

After working a few/many yrs in the ME, some of u might retire back to Canada. So the question is, being a non residentno tax for a while , is it possible to easily renew/actitivate the Canadian healthcare card again eventhough at that time already retired ? Do we start paying tax again being retired? Thank you

Questions regarding the UAE

I'm currently completing a graduate degree in education in Brisbane, Australia and am thinking about applying for a job in Abu Dhabi after I graduate. The job ad I am answering says that teachers will make 4000-$6300/month Canadian and have an free accommodation provided as well as a bonus for completing a 2 year contract. I was wondering if this will be enough money to support myself and my fiance (who will be my wife by the time I move there)?

I was also wondering if she will be able to work while we are there? She is a Japanese national and wants to work while we are there.

Thanks

Moving to Dubai - Getting Non Resident Status

Hello Friends,

I am seeking advise from people who have obtained Non Residency status in Middle East.

I have an offer to move to Dubai and I am leaving next week, my family will follow in 2 months time. I have sold my house, car etc. I will discontinue my health card, driving license and most of my ties with Canada except for,
1. Life Insurance
2. Bank Account ( with say 1000 dollars in it).

I would like to know,
1. Should I file NR 73, if so when?
2. Should I file my 2009 returns before I leave and indicate that I am a NR from a particular date? If I do this, do I still have to file NR 73?
3. Is there any tax lawyers, experts who has done this for their clients?
4. I have read that if I stay out of the country for 2 yrs, I am a deemed as a Non Resident, is this true? Again, I will discontinue all my ties with Canada.

I would appreciate your help
Thanks
Dinbin

Hey Fellow Canadians!

Hope you're all doing well.

My family and I are moving to Dubai from Toronto... and we're looking for Canadian schools or even ones with Canadian curriculums/curriculums relevant to Canada.

Can anyone advise?

Appreciate it!

I am a canadian - working in the middle east under contract- I have wife and kids still in Canada - I am getting a base salary as well as some additional benefits for being in a different country and danger pay.

Is there any legitimate way to avoid paying canadian taxes?

Planning to move middle east for saving money!

I am a Canadian citizen. Professionally, I am an electrical engineer having Canadian master’s degree and also licensed professional engineer (P.Eng.) of Ontario, working for an international company with 80K CAD salary. My intention is to work in Middle East, let’s say for couple of years, and get ride of my Canadian government and Canadian bank student loans. My enquiries would be to you are:

1. Having these student loans, can I be a non-resident so Middle East tax free salary can be enjoyed? I will be paying back these loans on monthly basis as I do now.
2. Can someone suggest web sites for job, salary, company related to electric power systems field?
3. What would be an average living cost in Middle East countries such as in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi etc? You may compare a Canadian couple husband and wife are living in a decent apartment and maintaining a single car.
4. Any other facts and suggestions?

Highly appreciated your help and generosity.
