Canadians needed - olympic hockey!! (and wings and beer)

Postby beardo » Fri Feb 17, 2006 7:39 am

Calling all Canadians and hockey fans!

A handful of Canadian friends and I have been going to the same pub in West Kensington, London to support Canada's mens Olympic hockey team....but we're aboot the only ones (5) and are always far out-numbered by the Finns or Swedes or Czechs or whoever, who show up with at least 50 people with painted faces and flags. We do our best (ruin our voices trying to be heard, spilling beer on opposing fans, farting, etc - whatever it takes), but we can only do so much.

We know there are more of us out there and call on all of you to get yer asses down to the Famous 3 Kings pub beside West Ken tube station to support our boys in their quest to bring home the top prize. It's a great atmosphere and is easily the best London pub to watch hockey in. They have big screens and TV's everywhere, pitchers of beer, the owner's wife is Canadian so he goes all out and gets the crowd hyped with a microphone. And get this.....they've got wings on the menu. And not a pissy UK attempt at wings, but credible wings cooked right with a great hot sauce (recipe taken from a bar in Toronto apparently). We had some last night and forgot where we were. They're outstanding.

Anyway - help us out crew! we need a presence!!

next games are:

Swiss - Saturday, Feb 18th at 14:05
Finns - Sunday, Feb 19th at 20:00

Let's get involved.

Cheers yo!

Niiice!

Are there any games on Tuesday night? I'm going to be in London on a stopover on my way to Toronto to visit.

I'd love to check it out!

At least you have a pub to go to - Budapest doesn't exactly have a lot of hockey fans!

yo!

Canada plays the Czech's (without Hasek I might add!) on tuesday but sadly the game is on at 3.35pm so our sorry asses will be at work. However, the SWE vs. SVK game and the USA vs. RUS game are both on at 8.05pm and 8.35pm respectively if you just want to watch some hockey. They have two screens so both games will be on. I doubt we'll make it down if Canada isn't playing.

check out this link for a schedule of Tuesday's games:

by the sounds of it you'll be knee deep in snow, wings and decent beer in no time though! safe trip!

Sweet. I'll check it out for sure! I'm looking for a hotel in that area as well, as i've seen a few cheap ones. Just staying for the one night.

Anyone else wanna meet for a beer and some hockey?

I just saw the Sweden-USA womens hockey - Sweden won in a shootout! Crazy - Huge upset, we'll see how Canada does against Finland later.

What network do you guys get the games on? Tried to watch Canada vs. Finland last night on Eurosport but they only aired the 3rd period. The result of the game is sadly a whole other post altogether : (

I get it on Eurosport as well, but I also get a german channel called EinsFestival that's been showing the hockey games.

I think Sky Sports shows them, but I'm not sure.

We've been watching all the games on BBC2 - if you press the red button it goes to Olympics interactive (i think u might need Sky to get the interactive bit on BBC2). from there they have a further 3 channels of Olympics and they have always played the big hockey games.

big game tonight boys! wonder if Paul Henderson is watching...

come down to the 3 kings pub if you're in the area - need all the support we can get !

What a dissapointment. I watched the game and could have cried. To be honest the guys have not played well together at all since day one. Just didn't seem like much of a team effort. I say bring in some new blood for the next game in Vancouver. What do you think? :(
