Hi,

I am planning to move to Abu Dhabi. Need information about accomodation cost (rent - 2 or 3 bed apt/house), elementary level schooling (Grade 1, 4 & 6 in a canadian or american school), living expenses etc. Also, if any advise be provided regarding school selection. Further, need contact of a suitable mover (UAE based or Alberta based).

Thanks

Saad

Saad:

You are in for a surprise: a 3 bedroom apartment in a decent part of town (next to the old Sheraton) is now going for 230,000AED. a 3 bedroom townhouse outside of abu dhabi (Raha Beach area) is now going for 210,000AED. As for schooling, there are several new schools that opened up lately that offer the Canadian curriculum - i advise to stay the heck away from the Canadian Grammer School. The fact that you have 3 kids going to school at the same time will actually set you back about 50,000AED for the year (at least).

As for living expenses, it isnt that bad, for about 2000AED you can have enough groceries for the family for the month. Movie tickets cost 30AED, gas costs 6.75AED per gallon, and there's a promotion right now for a Toyota Sequoia V8 for 149,000AED (or a Toyota Prado for 99,000).

I assume that MEdical insurance and ticket back to Canada once a year for the family will be included in your employment offer, correct?

good luck!

moe.
