Canuck, US Resident gets DUI in US: Denied entry to Canada?

Post Sun Nov 29, 2009 12:15 pm

Thankfully this is a hypothetical question. I was born in Canada but live in the US as a naturalized citizen. I hold both a US and a Canadian passport.

I understand that Americans with a DUI can/will be denied entry into Canada. But if I got a DUI, could/would they prevent me from going back to Canada (since I am a Canadian Citizen)?

No. As a Canadian Citizen, it is your right to enter Canada at anytime for as long as you want. However, if you are know to have a record, no matter how minor, they might give you a hard time and search your car/belongings a little more than normal.
