Canuck with anulled consumers proposal returning

Post Wed Dec 21, 2011 7:28 am

Hi all,

First i have to say I feel terrible about my bad credit. I incurred in CC debt and filed a consumer´s proposal that i could no longer pay it in the second year. That was back in 2008. Now I want to come back and wonder what would happen to any money I deposit in my now dormant bank account. Will it be seized by other banks that I owe money to due to the CC´s?
I have already sent an email to the Trustee to find out if I can revive the consumers proposal but have not yet received a reply from him.

Another question would be how do I go about reactivating my SIN and everything else like OHIP and such? I know I have to wait 3 months before I re-acquire my rights as a citizen (is it still 3 months?) but how do I let Canada know I am back for good?

And my third question is... how do I prove to the now CRA (when I left it was still Rev. Canada) that I have lived abroad for 4 years so that they don´t want to ask me for my takes of the past years?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide... and Happy Holidays!!

Your SIN was never deactivated.

OHIP (unlike other provinces) has an illegal 3-month waiting period. So you ahve to contact OHIP to get that clock started.

You don't have to tell "canada" anything. Your activities in canada will be sufficient.
At tax time, you would report a 'return date" on your tax return, for the year you returned. This vcould be a year after you return, if you, say, return to canada in january.

And my third question is... how do I prove to the now CRA (when I left it was still Rev. Canada) that I have lived abroad for 4 years so that they don´t want to ask me for my takes of the past years?

When you left you filed a departure return (remember?). If they accepted this, then that is it. If you did not write a depature date, you might have problems. You shouldn't owe tax, but you might have to correct the return you last did. I can give you more info at forums.serbinski.com

btw Revenue Canada became CCRA in late 1999 and CRA in 2003. Time flies.
