Car: US to Canada to US

Hi there,

Have a unique situation I was hoping someone on here might have experience in working around.

I will be moving to the US in August, currently live in Vancouver. I would like to have a car in Vancouver for the summer, but want to buy it in the US if I can to save...

Is it possible to buy a car in the US in May, use it in Canada for the summer, and then move it to the US in August? Aka, does my intent to live in the US do anything? Can I register the car under a relatives name who lives in the US (California, where I plan to move) in the mean time? I don't want to get dinged at the border bringing it back to Canada, and then back to the US again in August..

You will have to import the car into canad, pay taxes etc, register, plate, insure in canada ...

and then do all this (except importation to US) again in the fall.

You should rethink your strategy.
