CDN Elem. teacher looking to work in the UK

Postby MissViolet101 » Sat Sep 13, 2008 8:19 am

I'm CDN-born of Filipino ancestry, have taught full-time for 5 years (currently in my 6th), never married and have no children, and 29 yrs old (will be 30 in Feb). Due to my age, I won't be eligible to apply for a Holiday visa. I'm not ready to teach (for various reasons) in the 2009/2010 school year; possibly the 2010/2011 or 2011/2012 year.

If anyone could please answer my questions, I'd appreciate it! Please note that all of this British visa business is new to me, so any advice/info/tips are welcomed.

Which visa type can I apply for?
What is the average wait time for the visa to be processed?
Is there an official website for British visas? (If so, please post)
Should I start the application process now even if I don't have plans to teach in the UK until 2010 or 2011?
Honestly, what are the chances of obtaining a visa in my situation based on the details above?
If they're pretty good, what do you suggest I do first and when?
Are there offices in the Toronto area that I can call? (name/number please)

Thank you so much!

it looks as if u'll fall under the points-based system for general migrants.

there is no point in applying now, since it will be assumed that u want to travel to the uk in the next few months.

I heard the new immigration rules will only welcome science or math teachers.
