CDN married to BritCit, were visiting uk, now need to stay

Postby tdq » Mon Jul 20, 2009 11:55 am

I really hope somebody can offer practical advice on this. I am a Canadian citizen, married to a British-born British citizen and we recently came over to the UK for a while to visit my wife's parents. The trouble is they are both very ill with problems that will likely take a few years to resolve. I am wondering if anyone knows of any way to apply for what I beleive is called "Leave to Enter" which will allow me to live and work until I can apply for my "Indefinite Leave to Remain" in 2-5 years. I have tried all the obvious avenues of enquiry, but I do not find the UK Border Service and WorldBridge sites to be very clear of helpful. I know that I will have to leave England to apply for and receive this visa but if I could save a few bucks (it's going to cost so much to get set up here, bring our stuff over etc.) and not come all the way back to TO, and do it from somewhere in Holland (where I have a place to stay while things are being processed)that would be ideal.
So does anybody have any advice?

Hello,

You will have to apply for a spouse visa, you will not be able to apply from Holland, you have to apply from the country where you are a legal resident.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. However, I have seen this page before, and it doesn't specify what form I need to fill out for this spouse visa. Form "Set M" appears to be for "ILR". Unless I am missing something really obvious. Which is quite possible...help?
