Certificate of Approval

Certificate of Approval

Postby lindsay » Wed Aug 15, 2007 3:43 pm

Hey, I'm in the UK on a working holiday visa and I'm engaged to a Brit. As I understand it, I have to apply for a certificate of approval to get married. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on the process. Is it worth it to pay a solicitor or just go it alone?

Thanks!

Hi there,

You shouldn't need a solicitor to get the approval. Just be certain that you follow every single detail to the letter for the entire marriage process.
While it took extremely long for them to send back the certificate of approval, it really was one of the easiest parts of the process.
Message me if you have any further questions. I was just married a year ago, so it's still fresh in the old memory.

What sites/sources did you use for info about the marriage process? How long did it take for you to recieve your certificate of approval?

Thanks!

Hey Lindsay - I am looking for info too about the process to get married here. My only thing is my boyfriend is EU but is living in the UK with me so if you have any good info to pass along I would appreciate it. Good luck on your future wedding!

You don't need a solicitor to apply for the COA. The form is really simple and straightforward :) You must have been granted leave to remain (such as a WHM visa) for more than 6 months and have at least 3 months left remaining when you go to apply.

You can find the application form and guidance notes here. It is form COA.

Some more information about applying is here

Hello I'm EEA planning to get marry with my gf (non-European) in UK. We are applying for CoA and just wondering if it is possible to apply for it with visitor visa valid for 6months which my gf is holding. She's been here for 2months already.
It is really confusing about the requirement of applying for CoA [granted 6 months enter to leave] Is there anyone get a visa more than 6 months as a visitor? Because for visitor it usually got the [ENTER TO LEAVE FOR SIX MONTHS: EMPLOYMENT AND RECOURCES TO PUBLIC PROHIBITED]
Help help!!! please!! thank you!!!
million thanks!!!
