Changing employer on TN visa

Here is the situation-

I am currently on a TN visa expiring April 27, 2008 with Employer A.

I have found a new Employer B willing to give me the letter for a new TN visa. I am going to Canada March 20th-March 29th, to get a new visa. I plan to quit Employer A before the trip to Canada so I can re-enter with a new TN.

My questions are:

1) Does employer B need to file anything on my behalf before I go to Canada?
2) Should I quit Employer A before going to Canada? Or can I hold 2 TNs at one time? Is my plan of quitting Employer A on March 20th, going to canada, and re-entering US with a petition for TN with Employer B valid?

What is the best thing to do while switching employers on a TN?

No, employer B doesn't have to file anything in advance. You can hold multiple TNs at the same time, so there's no reason to worry about that. I wouldn't quit with employer A until I had the new TN in hand, in case it is denied. That way you can t come back to your first job and they can file an extension for you before it expires. That's what my husband did - he applied for a TN for a new employer about two weeks before his old one expired. He told the officer that he'd be renewing the old one by mail. No problems.

Great suggestion. We agree - do not quit your current job until you have the TN Visa approved for the new employer.

And yes you can hold multiple TNs.
