You don't specify if you are changing your name due to marriage or not. If you are changing your name due to marriage, you have to apply for a new passport using your marriage certificate as the reason for the name change.

They used to just put a sticker in your current passport with the amended name, but they stopped that in June 2007. Hope this helps.

Consult a Canadian consular officer in whatever country you go to. Where are you headed? I could help you find the address if you like. John Ausman

I don't recommend to change your name since the administration finds out the fact that you changed your name, they will immediately screen on you

I have a very similar question...

I am a Canadian citizen who has been living in the UK for the past 2 years. I am marrying a Canadian citizen (who has been living in Namibia for the past 2 years) in Canada (Ontario) this coming August. I would like to change my surname after getting married. This would be a simple process if I lived in Ontario. However, at the end ofJuly, I will be moving to Zurich, Switzerland for a new job.

The information I have found online (Ontario Government website) states that I need to submit my birth certificate, marriage certificate, and "a statement by a guarantor who knows the applicant and can confirm that he/she has lived in Ontario for at least one year prior to the application date". This final request is the problem as I haven't been living in Canada since 2008.

How do I go about applying for a name change while I live abroad? I'm hoping someone has gone through this process and provide any useful links/contacts.

Thanks!!!

I did this from Australia - just emailed the consulate there - they sent me the forms and instructions - I think I did have to have it signed by someone but not stating that I was living in Ontario for a year..
Worked fine for my passport but my bank (Canadian) wouldn't change my Canadian account name until I came in person to sign my signature card..
