hello i have been living out of canada for the last 10 years, in many places, so i am not a legal resident anywhere. i am heading to south america in a few weeks, and i am wanting to know if i want to legally change my name, can i do it a the canadain consulate there? is it fairly straightforward?
any info would be appreciated

You don't specify if you are changing your name due to marriage or not. If you are changing your name due to marriage, you have to apply for a new passport using your marriage certificate as the reason for the name change.

They used to just put a sticker in your current passport with the amended name, but they stopped that in June 2007. Hope this helps.

its not because of marraige.i have been using a different name for years and i want to make it legal.
