Postby leewils001 » Thu Sep 25, 2008 2:52 am

Hi,

im not Canadian but im about to go to Canada for a year but getting cold feet. I was fine untill a week ago then out of the blue ive been feeling down, scared ect. I know i should jump at the chance and felt great about it for the year and a half i saved, planned ect

Im def going to go but just feel like i want to cancel everything just now.

I'm going to be with family and know that if things dont go well i can come back but i just dont get why this is all negative all of a sudden. It is a big thing and ive not thought anything of it till now even though ive got everything in place. I go on the 6th btw. PANIC!

Can anyone help with past experience or just offer some advice please.

PS

i know il meet people and be with family ect but i can think about is the -'s not the +'s.

Its perfectly normal to have last minute doubts about moving to a strange country. I moved from Toronto to Bible Belt USA to be with my husband and several times I almost quit packing because I didn't want to go.

But here I am, 4 years later. In the USA and there are still boxes I haven't unpacked yet. ;)

I've actually still got one box I haven't unpacked from my previous emigration. I.e. I moved from one country to another, never unpacked it, and then I moved to another country.

Cold feet is very normal -- replanting ones self is naturally an unsettling process. My advice is stay connected with friends "back home", but also reach out and try to connect with new people in your "new home."
As you put down new roots, give yourself grace in the adjustment.
All the best,

where are you moving from?

i try to think about my upcoming move this way. i can always come home if it doesn't work out, but if i never go, i will never know. try to keep in touch with your friends and family so that you dont feel isolated and home sick.
