Commute with a TN Visa

Post Wed Jul 02, 2008 5:45 pm

Hello all, I am a Canadian Citizen, moving to Windsor, Ontario. I will soon be accepting a job in Detroit, which I intend to commute to daily across the border. I have an engineering degree from a Canadian school, and will be doing engineering work. I understand that I thus qualify for a TN Visa. Is it just as simple as going to the port of entry with the correct documents and requesting a TN Visa? Are they going to give me a lot of hassle, I understand that a lot of people commute over the border in Windsor, so is this a common thing?

Thanks for your help,

Nick Lawler

Yes it is a very straight forward routine.
I am an engineer and successfully granted two TNs within a year.
As long as you Engr discipline is somewhat aligned to your job that is good.

Make sure you have a proper TN letter and your degree prove (transcript , certificate ) etc.
For your case you might need a prove that your Canadian degree is equivallent to four yr US degree.
I am no expert on this, since I have a US degree.
Maybe some other in the forum can fill in.

Your Canadian degree is fine and SHOULD be recognized by USCIS.Whereas as mentioned by the above posting you need to be sure that your engineering degree perfectly aligns with your job functions in the US. Good Luck
