confusing situation..any help greatly appreciated

Post Fri Sep 02, 2011 8:17 pm

Hello :)

I am a canadian citizen..born and raised in MB, married to a Mexican citizen. We are currently waiting on forms that were sent into the cdn government about sponsorship for my husband. We also have a 9 month old son.
Shortly after we sent the sponsorship forms in, my husband was offered a job with family in Texas. So..I guess what I need some help figuring out is what it would take for us to be able to accept the job offer and move to the US. I would go initially with my husband and son and get us settled in, but would like to go to school after a little while. I would apply as a student to start, however i cannot apply for a loan in the US, and currently we don't have the extra $ to pay my tuition Does anyone have any clue where we could begin? i am completely lost!!

You could apply for a student loan in Canada either with the bank or gov't to pay your fees in the U.S but beware of the tuition costs. They are double / triple for non-residents and non U.S citizens. Thankfully I had a scholarship that paid my out-of-state fees and I was responsible for the in-state portion.

You would also need apply for "F-1" status at the border once your school provides you with an I-20. However, before receiving the I-20, you need to show proof of financial stability before receiving which could range anywhere from $20,000 depending on the school you choose to attend. Some schools allow you to use your mortgage as a way to show proof of financial stability.

Try to consult that to the embassy or to the immigration office near you. They will provide you the right information that you need. And also ask an attorney that are expert in visa and immigration issue for the support of your problem. And also try to search online, there are some sites that provide online assessment for visa and immigration issue.
