COnsequences for beaking your lease

Post Wed Apr 07, 2010 11:06 am

So, I moved to Louisiana and signed a one year lease with my apartment complex. I had a full time job working offshore and have since decided that I am wanting to move back to Canada. What are my options for breaking my lease. My apartment complex says I can't, I'll have to pay out the rear. What would be the consequences of just leaving? Would they flag my passport? Never able to return to America again? They don't have any personal information on me, they could probably track down my address at home from my place of work but that's it. I really can't afford to pay out the rest of my lease right now, I need the money to move home. What are my options?

Do they have your social security number? I'm not sure what else could happen but maybe you will just lose your deposit if you give them 30 days notice?
