Council Tax

Post Fri Mar 25, 2005 11:49 am

I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not a participant in SWAP (Students Working Abroad Program) would have to pay Council Tax for their accommodations? SWAP participants work rather than study while in the UK (much like working holiday makers). Any information would be helpful, and very much appreciated!

Hello,

If you are going to rent a private flat I think it will depend if the council will consider you a full time student are not (you need to prove it).
If you are here to work (and earn ££) then I guess they won't make any difference between you or someone else who works full time so you will probably have to pay.
If you are going to share accommodation with other people then usually they include all the bills in price of the rent.

I have found this link that can maybe help you:

I hope this helps

council tax

I am guessing that the kind of visa you would have would deny you any/all access to "public funds" which most likely includes an exemption to council tax.
