Couple of questions..Please help! :)

Post Tue Dec 07, 2010 6:11 am

Hi,

My bf is opening up a car company in California this month and I was just wondering if he can sponsor me right away to work for him? OR does it take a while since it will be a new company? I actually work for his Canadian construction company right now and we are both Canadian citizens.

I don't have a degree so I know I'm not qualified for a TN Visa. :( So, if he can't sponsor me right away, what are my other work visa options?

Also, I only have my G1 right now so do I need a US Visa in order for me to get a US Driver's License?

Thank so much!! :)

He would need to marry you.

What is his US status. He just can't go live in US.

Thanks for the reply agnelson.

He wants to invest so I guess he needs an E-2 Visa?

We are going to Cali this month with a one way ticket cause we are not sure if we wanna come back to Canada before or a little bit after the New year (before 6 months), so we can see what it's like in Cali. I was wondering if the one way ticket would be a problem at the border?

You need to buy yourselves a return ticket. They will MOST DEFINITELY ask you for it when crossing the border. When I used to cross as a visitor, they would ask for my return ticket.

Even if your fiance is starting a car company in the U.S. you would need to maintain and prove ties in Canada. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Even if he's applying for the E-2, who knows when it will be approved and if it's denied, you would have to go back to Canada. So be prepared for the worst.

Also as agnelson stated, you would need to be married in order to be a co-dependant on his visa. So if you want to be with him as his fiance for now, you would need your own 'status'.
