Ok so my girlfriend and I have decided to move to Canada. She wants to apply from within the country which I know is possible on the Family class system. How do we go about the move? Does she need a visitors visa or can she just move up here and then apply. What about bringing all of her belongings over the border to put in our apartment?

technically, yes she can apply from within Canada. However, if she shows up at the border with a U-Haul full of her stuff, they may not let her in.

She can go to Canada for the allowed 6 month visit, and then apply from there. You'll have to sponsor her as a conjugal/common-law partner (unless you plan to get married soon after she moves). She will likely have to leave her stuff in the US until she has legal status in Canada. Maybe not. If she catches the border guards in a good mood.

Canadian immigration has changed a lot since we tried to move my husband up there 5 years ago. I suggest you Google. Also, try a message forum called British Ex-Pats. I think they have a Canada forum.

Cool! Thanks! Now if I "buy" all her stuff, bedroom set etc. and bring it in earlier I guess that would solve the problem of not bringing her stuff into Canada.

except you'd have to pay duty and taxes on it.

If she brings it after she's got legal status, no duty, no taxes.
