Hello everyone,

New to the forum. I can't believe I didn't find this site earlier, it would have been a great help!

I'm going to be working in the UK for the summer and the employers asked if I have a valid CRB Disclosure. I had no idea what that is but on further research I found out it was a criminal record check which makes sense.

Just want to know if anyone has gone through this process and is there any point in doing it as I'm a Canadian and nothing would show up. I have to pay for this on my own through an external body or something and would just like to know is it worth it? Or should I produce a record check from Canada?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance to any reponses.

Cheers,

Deana

I would find out for sure if they mean a criminal record check from Canada? That would make more sense, as like you said, if you haven't been in the UK then a UK criminal check is irrelevant. Just a thought - maybe double check with them!

Likely, they mean a check in Canada. I had to do this before working over here. It can take a while so I would get on it asap. Just go down to your local police station and fill out the forms. they told me 3 months, but it ended up coming back a lot sooner. It probably depends on where you live.
I just moved here (UK) myself, so if you have any other questions ask away!

I needed a CRB check for my job as a social worker. I had one done in Canada as obviously nothing would show up in the UK. The council accepted this no prob. Just make sure its the "intensive" check.

Good luck!
