Hi, me and my wife are really hoping to move to Australia in a couple years here but want to know if any of you ex-pats could tell us about the crime in the cities there. We currently live in the murder capital of Canada, well fifth this year, Edmonton and are really starting to hate this place. Any change would be better than this Razz

Thanks.

Anywhere is better then Edmonton hahahhahahah ;P
I am in a suburb outside of Melbounre and it is pretty tame. Melbourne has the same crime you would find in any large city. There have been some recent issues with people getting beaten up on the late night train system around the city center. There is a very low level of homeless people and drug addicts. I moved here from Vancouver and feel pretty safe. Hope that helps.

I'm originally from Winnipeg. I've always felt safe the 2 years I've lived in Melbourne. There was one time some guys broke into a few cars at the hockey rink, but that is all I have really experienced. With any big city there are areas to avoid, especially at night.

Hi,

I live in Sydney and in my opinion, Australian cities would rate the same against Canadian cities in terms of personal safety and security.

Cheers!
Chris
