Cross Border Installation/Work

Hello, all
I'm hoping someone may have an answer in regards to this. Being in a border city, I've noticed local ads for an American contractor (home improvement) where you can make your selection at their store in the U.S., pay at par and have them deliver and install your purchase in SW Ontario. I was curious as to how this is done and is this reciprocated if the reverse was the case?

The workers would need authorization to work in canada, which they probably have. Why don't you phone the contractor and ask them. If you smell something fishy, alert CBSA.

The reciprocal would also need to be true.

There is nothing stopping a businessman in one country from hiring workers in the other country to do work there.

Thank you for the response! I can see how one could hire workers in another country to do work in that country, I'll call and ask, though. As a former TN'er I'm interested in the process.

It's legal under NAFTA, contractors working on behalf of a US contractor can do Canadian installations. They don't need specific work authorization, it's just the regular visitor category.

Yes it does work in reverse, do a search of the web under "B-1 NAFTA entry". CBP will ask to see an invoice or something similar for the worker. Directly employed workers in this situation are exempt from taxes in the other country until their income exceeds $10,000 under the provisions of the tax treaty.
