Current processing times for RCMP criminal records check

Post Mon Nov 21, 2011 8:20 am

As per title, does anyone know the current processing times for the RCMP criminal records check? The official line is 3 days for electronic fingerprint submission and 10 weeks for a paper fingerprint submission, but I heard from an admin at L-1 that they are seeing up to 3 weeks for an electronic and 4 to 6 months (!) for a paper submission. Has anyone heard anything current?

I went to school with someone this year who waited almost 5 months ( April to September) for paper. Mind if i ask why? Do you need RCMP fingerprints for a visa to UK or is it something else?

There are many reasons why someone would want a criminal or fingerprint check when apply for something such as a UK visa - but may not necessarily be required

The OP indicated the reason (the way I read it) was it possibly for a US visa?

See the link below for some of the reasons & the possible explanations

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cr-cj/fing-empr2-eng.htm

Processing times as follows - I would go with what the RCMP indicates as the timelines, if its better, then you benefit

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cr-cj/time-temps-eng.htm

Trust this helps the OP & others that want to know also
Disclaimer: I am not an immigration expert & anything that I post on visa & immigration is based soley on more than 30 years of personal experience & interaction with the UKBA & Home office.

If you have chance to go to Canada and do it electronically, dont think again...my paper-based is now taking 5+ months...and still not processed
