Post Sun Oct 19, 2008 12:21 am

Hello guys. I am a canadian citizen which lived all my life in Brazil . I don't have much money and I came back to Canada to pursuit another degree (, because I want to work in North America. Although my primary objective is hollywood (film business) and second option is any marketing in any fortune 500 company, do you think the Canadian is well recognized ? Please be honest.

Thank you and best regards

depends. What degree are you going for? Film, or marketing?

Your post is kind of all over the place, so its really difficult to answer your questions because its difficult to figure out exactly what your question is.

If you want to know if any degree obtained in Canada is accepted in the US, then yes, generally speaking, it would be. But if you're looking for a job in Film, and your degree is in marketing, you'd be hard pressed to get a TN with it.

Ok , sorry again, I will be more clear this time.

In fact, my doubt is about the value of degree related to the employer/company rather than visa matters.

Let's suppose someone wants to graduate in business at a Top school of canada, like Rotman or Sauder(UBC) . He wants to work in a forbes 500 company, as a business executive. My question is: Will his degree be competitive in the United States as an ivey league / finantial times top 20 business school? or the best canadian degree means the same of a medium university (ex. san diego state, new york state) in terms of employability inside the United States?

This is my concern this time. What I think I really want to do in my life is working in movie corporation such as paramount or warner, being a marketing executive. However, my degree is from Brazil, and I need to continue my study, but I'm afraid or studying two years or more (like at university of british columbia) and get no sucess with this project to work in hollywood. I don't have money to study in UCLA or USC, as everybody know the tuitions are higher than Canada and they charge another 10 thousand for non residents.

AFAIK, Canadian degrees are considered equivalent in the US, but it really is up to the individual employer, and no one here can answer your questions difinitively. We can only guess.

Considering the current state of the economy in the US, any employer would probably prefer to hire a US citizen or LPR anyhow, so they don't have to fuss with sponsoring visas and temporary employees.
