As far as I know it should be covered under the NHS all prescriptions over here are £6.50. regardless on what you get. Birth Control for women are free if you are into that sort of thing.haha.

You are suppose to be working for 6 months in the UK before you can register with a Doctor, but I registered after a week.

Hope that helps, but I would double check with someone.

I don't know how expensive insulin is at home (or here for that matter).

Before I moved here, I purchased a year's supply of metformin (GP sent a note to the pharmacy ok-ing it) and a 6 month supply of other medications.

It may be expensive, but it sure was worth it not having to worry about the whole health care thing here. (And once I got here I had to literally beg to have the Met and the other drug- had to throw a wobbler in the GP's office!)

I never heard about the 6 month rule. I registered after 2 months (would have sooner, but didn't know where I was going to live and since I had a stockpile of drugs.). More than half the people in my office are "foreigners" and I can't think of any who waited 6 months to register with a GP.

Try contacting DiabetesUK at: http://www.diabetes.org.uk/contact/index.html

Good luck!
