Difference in Words

Post Tue Jan 18, 2011 12:20 pm

While I have been here I had to have get used to changing words over such as:

Trunk = Boot yeas people now know what the trunk is due to tv/films but you still often get funny looks

Pants= Trousers In the Uk Pants are underwear. Though in certain areas of the UK the canadian form of the word is used. Very confusing

Sneaker = Trainers many english people just dont know what you are talking about if you use the word.

Garbage = rubbish/trash

There has got to be more but non can come to my mind

lol I spent a week in Berlin with someone from London.

Pram = stroller
Carpark = parking lot
Windscreen = windsheild
Tube/Tube Station = subway (U-Bahn/S-Bahn in Berlin)
Duvet = comforter (I know more people here that say comforter)
Drainer = person who can never see positive things
Ring/Rang = phone/call

Horse Related:
Head Collar = halter

Everything seems to be brilliant or mental as well. Or, it's mass-ive.

I'm sure there are more words but can't think of them at the moment.
