Do I need a visa to live in Scotland ?

Post Fri Jul 24, 2009 10:38 pm

My husband(born in Scotland) and I would like to live in Scotland, preferably Edinburgh for 6 months or so in 2010. I am a Canadian-born Citizen; he holds Canadian citizenship, but is entitled to a UK passport. How long can I stay in Scotland with him? Do I need a special visa? We do not intend to work as he is 77 and I am 62. All of my ancesters came from Scotland and he really wants to go back to his birth place for a while
Thank you

you can go to Scotland as a tourist for up to 6 months withouth any visa, but for any more than that you will need a visa. It may be difficult for you to get a visa as you do not intend to work, most visa are work related (even on ancestry visa you need to be willing to work) or for students.
If you husband has a UK passport he will be able to stay as long as he wishes.

Hope this helps.
