Do I qualify for a passport or citizenship?

Post Wed Oct 15, 2008 8:37 pm

Hi,

I've been looking at some websites and forums and other things like them, and have come up no more informed then before I looked. My father was born in the UK and live there for like 30 years before moving to Canada, does this mean I am qualified for a UK passport or citizenship? I am planning on travelling to England this summer for approximatley a year and I figured a passport/citizenship would be better than a work or ancestry visa.

Steele,

I think you are entitled to Right of Abode- you'll still need to apply for a certain type of visa if you intend on staying for a while. It's the same process as an Ancestry Visa except there's no biometrics involved (a nice step to avoid). Only if you were born there would you be entitled to the citizenship pretty muchrigth away. Ancestry visas are for if you have a grandparent born there (or Ireland before 1922).

There's another post in here entitled "passport eligibility" that might help too.
