Do you want to return to Canada?

Post Sun Apr 22, 2007 5:55 pm

Hi Dear fellow Canadians:

Does anyone of you feel like returning to Canada? I have been out of country for more then 3 years, and somehow, it feels like Canadian life is better. What's your opinion considering all aspects inclusive of employment conditions in Canada? Look forward to hear from you.

Thanks,
Traveller

I've been out of the country for only 8 months. I don't want to go back. at least not now. I like my life in Germany. maybe for you it's the US that you don't like as much as Canada.

The living conditions in Germany are similar to Canada I think. except jobs. I have 28 days of vacation. which is almost impossible in my field in Canada (programmer).

I would like to go back to Canada some day, if my husband will ever get up off his duff and start the immigration paperwork (he's American).

Quality of life in Canada is (IMO) better than where I am in the US. Plus, I have no family here in the US, no support network really when I need them. And there's no Shreddies! ;)

Thanks Clapoti & Reba first of all.

I'm a Statistician/SAS Programmer. And, since there are more opportunities here in the U.S., I'm on TN visa. Its great place, but something is missing.
Of course, moving back to Canada is ideal provided one gets the job of their liking. And, as Clapoti indicated there are not many jobs in Programming back in Canada. But, I'm keeping my eyes on if anything becomes available back home.

Thanks a lot once again.

well ive been out of canada for 7+ years, most in the US but ive recently relocated to Germany. I hated most of my time in the states, and am happy to be out. Europe does remind me alot of Canada for lifestyle and attitude, but I don't see myself heading back there any time soon.

Hi Clapoti & Gtoast:

Its nice to learn that you find the lifestyle in Germany kind of similar to that in Canada. Just curious, don't you find language a barrier in Germany?

I'll be back in Quebec within 10 years.
Always was the plan.

hummm sometimes yes but it's okay. I'm trying to learn the language so that hopefully one day it will not be a barrier anymore. Depending where you go you can also speak english or french sometimes (I'm from Montreal).

I also have a German girlfriend. this helps a lot, but one day I hope to be able to do everything by myself and not need her help.

I've been away from Canada for 5 years now and the last 2.5 have been spent living in Australia. I've also lived in China and spent a long while traveling.

The only thing I have missed about Canada are my friends and family. OH and driving on the right side of the road.

There are heaps of things that are better here in AU than back home in Canada but I feel as though I would be bagging out home a little bit too much to go through them.

But a quick highlight of AU. better living standards, a retirement fund system that works (Superannution), better working conditions and better weather! We just have crap internet here but oh well.

I do miss Canadian beer though. oh to have the big wall of choice from The Beer Store again. good times.

In short though. No. I do not want to return to Canada.
