Driver's licences again.

Post Wed May 31, 2006 9:08 am

I've been abroad for 9 years in Poland as a Canadian non-resident and am returning to Ontario in two months. Needless to say I can't find my old Ontario driver's licence, but I have a Polish one.

I've checked out the Ministry website and it looks like a horror story. At first sight, it looks likes I need to start from scratch as a total novice and may be years without the licence. There's something there about an authentification letter from the local Canadian consulate which must certify that I have been driving all these years - which obviously they can't possibly do.

Is this as bad as it looks? What should I do? Does anybody know?

Thanks, Wyatt. I've sent them my question, but it's hard to feel optimistic. I haven't been back in 9 years. The authenication letter looks like a killer. Our local embassy has never heard of it and said it couldn't write one as they have no way of knowing if we have been driving or not.
