Driving in Oz

Post Sat Dec 22, 2007 8:17 am

Hello. I'll be moving to Oz in the new year. I am being sponsored fully on a 457 for 4 years only (with the intent to leave after that.unless I find another job).

Can I drive for the full 4 years there on an international drivers license? Or will I need to apply for an Australian drivers license?

Thanks a bunch

I got my 10 year Oz license in Victoria.it was super easy. I just went into Vicroads and they made me an appointment to come get my photo taken.I had the option of a 5 or 10 year license (10 year was $180) they took my photo and my $$ and gave me my license right there.no driver test nothing :)You can use your Canadian license for 3 months.hope that helps :)

Yeah, getting a licence is easy. You'll just have to renew it every few years (i think). Hope you enjoy your trip!

Actually, on an e457 visa, you don't need to get an Aussie license. You can just use your canadian one.

If you do decide to get permanent residence, then you will have to get a NSW license here after 3 months. Just bring your current license and get a driver's abstract printed before you leave.

What about if my drivers license expires while I'm in Oz? My current one is going to expire this September. Should I just apply for a new one here? Or just apply for a drivers license over there?

Thanks.
