What that means is, you have to show evidence you are licensed to drive a stick shift in Canada.

I am heading to the UK on a YMV in april and I know that you can only get it exchanged for an automatic license. Would it be better to get a class 4 test done in a manual transmission car and get proof you have completed it. Or should I use mine (for up to 3 months i believe) to take a few lessons and then take a road test? Or should I get an international license (which I think is good for 1 year for either manual or auto)? and do a test after the first year?

I second WICKED's questions.
I've read that once in the UK you can drive on your Canadian License for a year. within that time you can get a provisional license, take the test and then you have a full British license without any "L"s. i'm assuming that means its similar to the graduated license system in BC and alberta? and you'd sort of be grandfathered into a full license?

do you have to take the theory test as well as the practical? or just the practical? once you get your full british license can you still keep your canadian license? or does it become void?

I've been soooo confused about this!

Yes, according to the DVLA you can drive manual or auto for up to a year on your canuck license. What I am doing is driving for 6 months or so on it and taking the odd lesson first to familiarize myself with the road over there and then just take the test and exchange it for a full UK license.
