dual citizenship ???

Hi everyone

I searched the forums and did not find the info I was searching for.

My Grandfather was an American living in Canada for years and years until 1960 the year he died.

That makes me 1/4 American.

Can I get dual citizenship?

What kind of proof would I need?

I don't think you are able to. Looks you are too far removed with your grandparent.

I believe that US citizenship by descent applies to some children only, not grandchildren. This is consistent with Canada and the UK as well. Ireland and Greece offer grandchildren citizenship, I belive. The US cases are different depending on year of birth, however. My father-in-law's father was born in Montana. He was born in 1931 and would be eligible for citizenship. His brother was born in 1935 and is not eligible for citizenship. Both of these are moot points, however, because the US citizen was born in 1899. Montana does not have records available prior to about 1905 so there is likely no way to prove entitlement.

to be honest I was having trouble with the idea of having to take up arms against Canada, and having to make the US my only country

However another winter...(wich I love) at -40c can make you think about Hawaii..and that you might do almost anything to be warm.

There are three ways you can get US citizenship:
1) Be born in the U.S.
2) Have a biological parent who is American
3) Marry an American, live in the U.S. and apply for citizenship (requires taking an exam, etc.)
