Dual US / CAN Citizen Moving To USA

Post Thu Jul 08, 2010 2:01 pm

Hi,

I'm new here and hoping someone can answer a couple of questions for me...

I was born in the US and have dual US / Canadian citizenship, but I haven't lived in the USA since I was a young child. I'm now 37, married, 3 kids, and am thinking about moving back down south.

My questions are:

1) As a US Citizen, is there any paperwork I need to fill out to move down? I already have a SSN, but never bother getting a US passport.

2) Similar question as #1, but for my wife. Is she required to become a citizen? What kind of official documentation would she need to apply for?

3) Ditto for the kids. Do they need any kind of official status to attend schools down in the US? (They are all in elementary school.)

Thanks very much for taking the time to read this. I am looking forward to browsing through the forums here!

Regards,

Michael

For you, nothing is needed but your birth certificate.
For you wife, she needs to immigrate.
Your kids need to file for US passport, but this can be done at your leisure.

So the key is filing for your wife.
