DVDs in the UK - quick question

For Canadians living / traveling in the UK

I had a pair of bose 301's that I sold before comming before realising that speakers work wherever!

Here's a little fact they don't usually tell you: almost all DVD players in the UK are multiregion these days. They can't legally list that as a selling point, though, for obvious reasons. Also, in general, the cheaper DVD players tend to be more flexible. A cheapie from Argos is more likely to play other region's DVD's than a £200 Panasonic, for example. I've played my Canadian DVD's over here with no problems whatsoever.

However (and I know this wasn't part of your question), it's my understanding that the same doesn't work the other way around. UK DVDs aren't so easy to play on Canadian DVD players. I've heard an explanation as to why, but I don't think it was clear enough to remember specifics. It was enough to convince me not to bother buying DVDs over here before heading home, though.

Playing non-region 2 DVDs in the UK really isn't a problem. Most people seem to have multi-region players, and even if they don't, they're not expensive to buy.
