EEA residence card or family permit

Post Sun Mar 15, 2009 8:03 am

Hi everyone,

I am a Canadian living and working in London on Working Holiday Visa (expiring shortly). My partner (a Polish national living in the UK since four years) and I got married last December. I am looking at changing my status and it seems that the logical route would be to apply for the EEA family residence card. But as my WHV is going to expire, I would not be able to work until I am granted the residence card (which seems to be taking up to 10 months). I would like to go back to Canada and apply for an EEA family permit, which if I understand correctly would enable me to work as soon as I arrive, and would also give me the time to apply for the residency card. Does the EEA family permit entitle me to work until I obtain the residence card and would I aloud to apply, as I was already in the UK?

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Emma
