Hi, I’m wondering if anyone can help answer this question.
My Dad was born in Trinidad in the 1930s while it was still part of the British Empire. He had a British passport up until the 1970s, when he let it expire and didn’t bother renewing it. He had moved to Canada in the mid-1950s (before Trinidad & Tobago gained independence from the British Empire) and found that it was easier to use his Canadian passport while travelling within North America, hence he never renewed his British passport. He still lives in Canada and, as far as I know, he did not give up his British citizenship when he moved to Canada. What I’m wondering is:
1) Is he eligible to reapply for a British passport, more than 30 years after his last British passport expired?
2) If he is granted a British passport, would I be eligible to apply for a British passport based on his citizenship? For what it's worth, I was born in 1985 and my parents were married to eachother when I was born (and they're still married).
I appreciate any input!
