Emotional Intelligence Study for Expats!

Post Wed Sep 06, 2006 11:05 pm

Have you ever wondered what would make your expatriate experience more successful? I have, in fact I have designed a research study to help better understand how to enhance your expatriate experience.

My name is Saira Jhutty, and I am a graduate student at Alliant International University in San Diego, California, and I am asking for your help!

* Has your organization sent you outside of your home country to complete an assignment that is at least nine months long?

* Have you have been living and working outside of your home country for at least three months?

If you answered yes to all of the above, then you qualify to participate in my research study! This study will only take 20 – 25 minutes and all data collected from your responses will be used solely for research purposes. All of your responses will be strictly confidential and anonymous and the data will be represented in a way so no individual can be identified. There are no known risks to anyone taking part in this study.

As a fellow expatriate, I hope you agree with me that learning how to make the expatriate experience successful is important to all of us. So, please pass this email along to any expatriates that you believe would be willing to take part in this study.

The link below will take you to my study and it will give you a more detailed description of its components. Thanks very much in advance for your helpful participation!

TO PARTICIPATE IN THE STUDY, CLICK HERE:

After completing the questionnaire, I will be happy to send you a summary of the results of the research when they are available. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at sjhutty@alliant.edu or my dissertation supervisor, Dr. Bernardo Ferdman at bferdman@alliant.edu.

Thank you!

I take it then that this study is only for ex-pats who have left their countries due to their work solely?
I LOVE KD :-D

Hi,

If you have left your home country for reasons other than work - but, are now working in the new country -you can still participate! :)

I tried this tonight, as I like to do these types of things, but I gotta tell you that the second part was so boring it drove me nuts so i just quit it.you might want to rethink it if you want people to complete it, especially without some sort of renumeration for the time required. The questions were repetitive and did not seem to have any point to them. Nothing personal, just a suggestion from one whose tried it!

Thanks for at least trying to participate!! Any piece of feedback I get is very useful and helpful - and I will take your feedback into account when I write my study.

The questionnaire you took is called the MSCEIT and it measures Emotional Intelligence (EI) by testing your ability to see emotions in faces, colours and objects. It also measures your ability to understand how emotions combine to determine mood. It's not your typical intelligence test - it uses more unconventional methods to determine your emotional intelligence. Some people find it VERY interesting and want a detailed report of their findings, and others are not really into it.

This test is a published test and right now is the only way to measure EI. At one point it took over 1 hour to complete - so, researchers consider this version to be short! :)

Once again, thank you for your feedback and I really do appreciate your help!
