Employment in Malaysia

Greetings,

I am considering working in Malaysia possibly next year. Any suggestions of where to go to find employment? I work at the University of Victoria as an IT Support Analyst and my wife is a teacher.

We've been to Malaysia quite a few times and are considering taking the leap and moving for a while. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers

HI!
You probably already know this but just in case you don't.salaries in Malaysia are generally pretty low and getting a visa can also be a major issue. However I do have a few general tips for you:
Your wife could apply to work at ELS Malaysia which is an English language school and they should provide her with a proper visa. She could apply in advance, just check the website. (If you want more details please email me). There are also places like International House, and Erican and of course British Council, do a google/yahoo search for 'English jobs in Malaysia'.

U said you're in IT - although there are a lot of opportunities for IT in Malaysia sometimes its hard being that you are not considered local and despite your experience and all that you might end up at a college making 500 dollars. On the other hand if you can apply to large companies BASED in Malaysia (i.e. Canadian, British companies etc.) I would say that you could get yourself a very posh expatriate contract there.

IT goes without saying that you would also be eligible to teach as a native English speaker with a degree.

Okay i hope this helps a tiny bit - if it hasnt, feel free to message and i'll try again;) g'luck.
