Establishing credit in Uk

Post Tue Dec 21, 2004 7:41 am

Can anyone tell me good way to establish my credit while in the UK. Also does my credit rating in Canada have an impact on establishing credit in the UK?

I assume that you have a bank account? Ask your bank about getting a card with your account, or getting an overdraft, which will stat you out on establishing credit. Otherwise, apply for a store card - though, that said, no one - not even my bank would give me credit until I could prove that I had been in the country for 3 years (other than my £200.00 overdraft).

As far as your credit rating in Canada goes, be it good, bad or otherwise, no, it does not have any impact on your credit rating here. This is a different country, therefore, you have a different credit history - it would be the same no matter where you moved outside Canada.

Good luck.

My bank asked for a reference from my canadian bank. So you might like to get an introduction letter.

As for credit, NAt West, if you take the Advantage Gold account for a small fee, gives you AUTOMATICALLY a MAster Card credit card with a normal interest rate (compared to store cards)

That's what I went for. It also gives me various discounts on insurance and stuff which was very usefull when I got a car.
