Hello all, it's me again, with my ever-present line of questions that could simply be answered if anyone at the High Commission ever picked up the phone. I've started my visa process for the settlement visa - the details of why I want this are in a different thread - but am wondering about my chances due to the 'evidence of spouse's work/salary' requirement. At the current time, and potentially until we arrive in the UK, my wife (who is a British national) may not have a job in-country yet. How am I supposed to provide this evidence? Moreover, will leaving it out make a difference? I can't imagine they'd deny the visa - I have proof of necessity of being there, and she is a citizen, after all.

As usual, I'd appreciate any advice you could give. Thanks!

I'm not entirely sure. I would maybe include a letter of intent to work with the application?

I don't think it will make a huge difference if it's not 'required' however I'm not sure. You might always list her as a homemaker? which I'm sure a number of people whom move to the UK if they are coming as spouses.

My b/f has just been approved for the settlement visa. (I'm British, he is Canadian)

For his, we just sent copies of current pay stubs to show that we are competent enough to work right now. We didn't submit anything for future opportunities in the UK.

When the lady called, she did ask if we were currently looking, and my b/f told her that I had contacted an agency (which I had already). That was the end of that question line.

Is your wife currently working now?

Yeah, she's got a rather decent job as a teacher right now, and just finished applying to two different UK teacher recruitment agencies, which look very promising.

I wouldn't worry about it then.

Just copy a recent pay stub, and maybe print the emails going back and forth from the agencies.

I agree - write a letter of intent, outlining her current job, what she plans to do in the UK and outline what she has done already to find work - include pay stubs and copies of correspondence.
