Extending my visitors status

Post Wed Apr 15, 2009 8:52 pm

I want to stay longer than the three months that my ETA had initially. How is this accomplished? I'm quite sure I have the 1 year visa but that requires you leave after 3 months and then "come back". Have any others done this? Is it hard? What's involved, can I jump over to NZ and then back to OZ post haste?

I think ETA's are only for 3 months, multiple entries. And I think you can go to NZ and back.

Not sure what visa you have but I went and had the 1 year Working Holiday visa and it didnt require you to leave at any time. The only thing was you couldnt work at 1 job more than 6 months.

**Visitor ETA conditions
-Valid for visits to Australia for tourism or to visit friends or relatives
-Valid for multiple visits within 12 months from date of issue
-Maximum length of each visit is three months
-You must not work while in Australia

It's explained in their website.

You will have to go out for few days.....

I guess I'm just wondering if it was that easy.. It sounds insanely simple. Hope a plane to NZ, and tour about for a day or two and then go back to OZ.
I was looking for someone who's done it.

I've done it before but that was in 2002 but it looks like the requirements haven't changed. The point of the ETA was to encourage tourists to use Aus as a base for exploring. Yes, you could keep using the ETA like that but you'll find it's cheaper to just apply for a 1yr visa.

there is not really a 1 year visa for people over 31, so that's cactus. But I was planning on going about to NZ and perhaps some other surrounding islands.
