Hey

I have one question. even though I think I already know the answer. I am a Canadian citizen and when I was born (in Canada) , my father was a US permanent resident (and he still is and he still resides in the US). However, I have never lived in the US. What I was wondering is can I get permanent residency at birth? Now, I am 23, so if I want to apply to get permanent residency, it would several years ( + the fact that my father has never requested his US citizenship). From what I have read and heard, I think I am entitled to nothing but I just want to be 100% sure.

You're no longer a minor so the only way to do it is on an I-130, which means a fairly long wait.

Permanent Residency is not granted at birth like citizenship is. Your father would have to sponsor you (as Stephen mentioned) and as he is only an LPR, the wait would be several years. I think current timelines are running about 7 years, give or take.

It would be 2B, so that looks like a nine-year wait to me, they're currently assigning numbers to applications received in February 1999. You can shave three years off the wait if he gets citizenship, because that puts you in first preference.
