Fiance in the USA, Help!

My fiance and I have known each other for 3 years and want to get married. He is from Virginia, and I'm from Ontario. My family traditionally gets married young, as does his family. We are both 18. We were going to apply for a K1 Visa, so I could move down with him in Virginia, but we couldn't. He has to make $17 500 a year, which he doesn't since he's only a student at Virginia Tech. I am in college to be an educational assistant. We apparently need a co-sponsor, but his parents won't sign, saying it's our responsibility. What other options do I have. I want to move down with him ASAP. Please help, I'm really stressed out. It would be greatly appreciated!

Oh well, I guess the "tradition" will end. His parents don't seem to be much for keeping it, either.

You can visit him for short periods as a tourist, while still living in canada. Vice versa for him.

Besides, aren't you in college in Ontario? Were you going to ditch that for a ring?

But, for the benefit of those romantics out there...

HOWEVER, if you visit him in US (obviously, you say nothing at border that you are going to visit your fiance), and subsequently marry, he can then apply to sponsor you (filing I-130/I-485/I-131/I-765).

Entering US as a tourist with the pre-existing intention of marrying is fraudulent -- and if found out as you enter you risk a ban, or worse (think of it as a new tradition), but once you are in US, and especially once you marry this US Citizen, these minor indiscretions are all forgiven. You would still need to meet the poverty guidelines to stay.

You need to look at visajourney.com to see how 1000's of people in exactly your situation have successfully gotten around your problem.

No... even if I filed for the K1, I would be out of school by then. His parents want us to figure out a way, by ourselves. They say it is our challenge and we are to fight it ourselves. They are very supportive, but want us to figure out a way to do it ALONE. So, if anyone else has any ideas, on how to live down there, not just visit, please reply!

Doesn't it always seem to be the girl who has to pick up stakes and move to him? THAT is tradition.

The only other option is to wait until your fiance has finished college and has a job that pays him enough to cover the poverty guidelines for the affidavit of support. Or find a generous employed friend to sponsor you.

See the info at http://www.visajourney.com LOTS of people there who've fallen into affidavit problems.

Unless you're qualified for some sort of work visa, then you'll just have to wait until such time as your fiance can prove he can support you.
