Fiance

Post Sat Jan 02, 2010 1:58 am

I am currently a american citizen and my fiance is canadian. She is pregnant with two of my children. My question is , what is the easiest way for her to move to the u.s. or for me to move to canada? Should i apply for a fiance visa or dual citizenship? :?

Thanks for your time.

check out http://www.visajourney.com/forums/ super site about relationship visas.

k1 is for a fiance, so have a good read on that forum. stickies at the top explain it

Sorry, she just can't get citizinship, doesnt work that way, there is a process to go

k1 = fiance (not already married) other relationship visas are the k3 and Cr-1, which the person is already married.

differences:

k1 tends to be the fastest, but as u can see from the above link, there are negatives. each has to consider their own personal situation.

And I belive she can collect Cdn maternity benefits in the USA, but she may have to give birth in Canada to collect it. Not sure about the details, something to look into though, I havent had my morning coffee yet, so pretty dopey, lol

But read the stickies and you should be fine. VJ is a pretty complete forum with regards to relationship visas. Even examples of filled out forms (at top where it says example forms)

k1 takes approx 6-8 months, interview in either Montreal or Vancouver, depends where she lives in Canada. USA spouse does NOT have to attend. best of luck

I just wanted to say that I agree with the above poster about how valuable VisaJourney is. I recently came here on a K-1 visa (Toronto to NYC) and found the process pretty painless thanks to the advice on VisaJourney.
