Filing Canadian Tax Return

Post Sun Feb 07, 2010 5:46 pm

Hi,

I am wondering whether someone knows the answer for my question. Is it possible to file a different Canadian tax status with a spouse; e.g. file T1 as a Canadian resident for myself and a non-resident return for a spouse.
Have anyone had ever done that?

Many thanks for any help or advice

Dmitry

Yes, but the person claiming to be non-resident has to (a) be resident in other country, and (B) rarely visit Canada.

Otherwise CRA will consider having spouse and home in Canada, and visiting there a residential tie, and tax you on world income.

I and swer these type of questions at forums.serbinski.com

All work done in canada as an employee is taxable in canada, unless it is less than $10K and there is a treaty with that country.
