Filing for Divorce in the Middle East

Help!
My husband and I have been separated for over a year.
We both live in diffent countries in the middle east. I have custody of our daughter. My husband pays for her to travel to see him each 2 weeks.
We were married in Toronto.
We both want to file for divorce but I have been advised due to not being a resident in Canda for a year, I cannot file there.

Does anyone have a legal contact here that can confidently adivse on how to file for divorce here.

Does it matter where you were married or where you live now?

Any suggestions much appreciated.
