filing taxes by yourself or not ?

Post Fri Jan 14, 2011 6:39 pm

Hello All,

I've been living in the US on a TN-Visa since last May now, and I am starting to think about taxes.

I worked in Canada from January to April, so I will have to file over there on top of here in the US. I was wondering if it's way too much of a hassle to manage by myself ?

What do you guys do ? Do you do your Canadian / us taxes by yourself or get professional help ? Especially for the first year, where you have half us / half Canadian income ?

I'm single, no kids and living alone, so that should make it easier for me, but still...

Thank you very much for your feedback!

Frank.

You have a few choices on how to file in US in the first year. After the first year your taxes will be pretty simple.

In canada, if you've done your own tazes in the past, you should be able to do your own deparyure return; you can even use an online program like ufile.ca.

I answer lots of these types of Q's at forums.serbinski.com
