Hi Guys! I posted on this forum quite a bit before coming here, and now that I've arrived I thought I'd give a bit of an update.
My mission was to sublet a flat and find a place to work. Subletting was quite easy, but not cheap. I used the London Student Housing Guide -- an incredible resource for summer accommodation. I recommend this to anyone seeking short-term accomodation in and around London.
Finding a job has proved to be both frustrating and dare I say impossible! Job agencies in Canada could always find me short-term work on very short notice, but the ones here seem to blow me off and none have called me back (applied to about 6). I've handed out CVs and emailed them, and I only got one call back. When I said I was only looking until the end of the summer, she said nvm!
Even some kitchen porter jobs said "experience a must"!
This has caused me to abandon my job-hunt and sublet plan, and has forced me to travel for the month of July instead. This may work out for the best, but it's worth noting for other travelers that work (esp. in the summer) doesn't come so easily. Not sure how a WHVer would get along?
That aside, UK is a beautiful place. London reminds me of Toronto. It's actually a lot closer to Canada than I expected it to be.
Anyway, that's all. If anyone has any other questions about my journey feel free to ask. I came here on a British Passport (by birth) and had a 2-second entry interview, which was nice!
Take care,
Stuart
